Welcome to the Alumni community of the American Jewish Society for Service!  We are delighted that you have logged on and are interested in reconnecting with us!  With the help of the Jewish Coalition for Service and the Jewish Service On-Line Network we are looking forward to hearing from as many former AJSS “campers” as possible and to begin to develop programs and activities that can expand our program beyond the 6-week summer experience.  Please spend some time on this web page and take a look at what the Jewish Coalition for Service has to offer.  They are a great clearinghouse for service programs across the world and for people of all ages.  AJSS is one such program.  Depending on when you were an AJSS volunteer, you may not be aware that there are several organizations that came into being in the past 20 or so years that offer programs similar to AJSS.  We now have great partners in the growing field of Jewish service and since AJSS is a program for high school age folks, we serve the youngest community of activists.  We want AJSS alums to see their experience as a first step toward a lifetime of tikkun olam and you are now in the right place to take those next steps, if you aren’t already engaged.

There are a lot of exciting things happening at AJSS – our new website is now up and running and we are gearing up for an exciting 57th summer of service.  Our participant application is on the web.  If you know of anyone who would be a good candidate for spending a summer with us, please send them our way!  We still offer the same transformational experience that you had as a participant – please help us spread the word.

If you want to be in touch with AJSS directly, please send me an email (info@ajss.org) or give me a call – 301.767.3930.

Welcome Back to AJSS!

After graduating from Oberlin College with a degree in Jewish Studies, Anna Schuettge traveled to Washington, DC to work as the Center for Jewish Experience Fellow at Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life.  Anna has spent her fellowship year designing educational resources for campuses nationwide, and developing and staffing social justice and leadership trips internationally.  Anna's motivation and passion for social justice work stems from her many years of involvement with the American Jewish Society for Service (AJSS).  As a camper in 2001, Anna traveled to Rocky Ford, Colorado and loved the work so much that she decided to return as a counselor.  In 2005, she led a group of high school students to Vancouver, British Columbia and picked up her hammer again in 2006 in Roseburg, Oregon.   Aside from Jewish communal work, Anna enjoys playing ultimate Frisbee, rocking out on the banjo and snowshoeing in New England.
